We finished the Georgetown Tournament as Finalists, with a 3-1-1 record for the tournament, losing only to Mooredale, 7-5 in the finals.
Congratulations Georgetown Tournament U8 Finalists
On behalf of Coach Bruno, Coach Joe, and Tom, we want to thank everyone for an incredible tournament experience this past weekend. In reflecting, we had many great comments to share. Firstly, our boys have come a long way in both team and individual development by defeating many tough teams in the tournament, coming out with a 3-1-1 record, second best in the tournament. Many coaches approached us with very glowing complements about how well we played, how strong we are as a team, and how well behaved our boys were. Thank you to Bruno, Joe and Patrick for the hard work in getting our players to this point.
Secondly, thanks go out to our incredible parents. Your cheering on the sideline was inspiring to the players. The 'This is Our House', 'You can do it!!' comments are just what the boys need. They will perform so much more strongly with those words of encouragement from both sides of the field, while accepting feedback from the coaches at opportune times before, throughout and after the game. We also want to thank the parents for your comradery between games. The bonding that took place, the security in knowing that we were all looking out for each others kids and the friendships the boys developed by playing together during downtime is what holds a team together.
Finally, we want to thank our amazing sponsors for supporting our team financially. Special thank you goes out to Tony Capone of Home Organizers, for buying breakfast for team members on Sunday morning. Your generosity and support for the boys means a lot to this team.
Our team is now clearly on the map with very strong Semi finalist and Finalist placing in the two tournaments we have entered, and a superb regular season standing thus far. We will now gear up and focus our efforts for our next tournament, the Toronto Mini-Cup in August.
4-1 win over Woodbridge. We pretty much controlled the game and got the result we all expected. Next test is against powerhouse Unionville.
Tournament
The U9 Rep Girls played well on Saturday the 12th. We lost to Ajax Turboz 1-0 in our first game. A game with a lousy referee. We owned the 2nd half but could not score.
We tied King City in our second game 1-1 again with the same Ref (King City is the #2 Team of ALL 12 teams in U9 YRSL). We lost our league game to them 4-0. We can't wait for the 23rd of July at Patricia Kemp.
Our third game of the day was against Darlington (2nd in the Durham League). We were down 1-0 early but the girls battled back and held a 2-1 lead with 2 minutes to go until a late penalty gave Darlington 2-2 tie (Darlington beat King City on Sunday 2-0). We matched up well against Darlington and should have won. It was both our 3rd game of the day. The only 2 Teams that had 3 games in one day.
On Sunday the 13th, we lost to Ajax Dynamite 3-0. 9am game and players were not awake. Excellent showing against stiff competiton. We only had 10 players all weekend and against Darlington, we only had 9.
On another positive note, our Captain # 6 Sarit Winstok came 2nd over all in the Skill's Competition for ALL U9 Girls (about 40-50 players) for shooting passing and dribbling.
We are looking forward to the North Toronto Tournament in August.
Last night was a tough one for the boys as they tried to keep there unbeaten streak alive. 1-0 at half. Shortly into the second half Woodbridge scored on a penalty shot. However our boys were not going to be beaten at home! They fought for 1 more with about 10 minutes left, and played strong D the rest of the way to keep our streak at 8-0. Special mention to our keeper Tristan who made the most incredible save with about 5 minutes to go.
GSSD GU10 – 3 vs. South Simcoe United - 0 (Record: 6W-0D-2L)
In a re-match of our season opener, the Glen Shields U10 Girls played the SSU girls, in ‘Their House’ this week. With our GK, still laid-up with the separated shoulder, our back-up bravely guarded the net for us again.
In the first half, our girls took the game to our opponent, with most of the play in their end, producing many chances. From a bad clearing attempt, our pressuring players came up with the ball and our ring wing-back shot a high one from just inside the centre line, over their unsuspecting defense and GK for the first score of the game. We added another before the end of the half to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the opponent come out strongly however we won the 1v1 battles and kept our opponent out of our end. We added another goal 15 minutes into the half with a well-played 3-way combination, playing strongly for the remainder of the game.
Final Score 3-0
Well done girls U10 team with contributions from everyone! (Coach Joseph)
Next 2 games:
Mon. July 14th (HOME) vs. Collingwood
Mon. July 21st (AWAY) vs. Aurora
On the night of July 10th U17 Glen Shields Girls hosted a home game against Pickering Power. In our opening game of the season, we defeated P.P with a score of 5-1. Last night, a few minutes into the first half we were losing with a score of 1-0, but almost immediately tied the game very easily with a wonderful assist on a flick pass by Karen Barak that set up Chelsea Maidment with a great goal. G.S. had many more chances that could have led to goals, but it just wasn’t our night. Going into the second half we needed to pick it up and take the win. G.S. didn’t play our very best game, but it also didn’t help the fact that our referee was perhaps inexperienced. Amongst other things, the repeated evident tripping in the box was completely ignored which unfortunately created outbreaks from spectators, thus adding stress for all players. The final score was a 2-1 win for P.P. (Natalie Ghazalian)
Ontario Cup Story from Thunder Bay - UNBELIEVABLE!
It pretty well tells the story. We are through to the Semi Final round of the Ontario Cup to be played August 24th in Cambridge. With so many starting players missing (4) and with only 13 players in our lineup, not to many people gave us a chance to win our group, some even said why go, but the Coaches believed and we made the players believe that we could pull this off and pull it off they did in dramatic style……
Saturday’s opening games - We did not get off to a good start against Oakville losing 4-1. London City and Thunder Bay tied 0-0. This was really disappointing as we knew we were the better team, we didn’t play well and we gave this game away. To have any chance of advancing we had to win our next 2 games against Thunder Bay and group favorite, London City. After a very stern talk from the Coaching Staff, after our loss to Oakville, our players answered the call beating Thunder Bay 1 – 0 in the afternoon game. London City beat Oakville 2 – 0. The stage was set for the final Sunday games, as all the teams had a chance of winning the group.
Sunday’s final games - Everything was in place for us. The Coaching Staff was confident that we could beat London but it was up to the players to pull it off. We also needed help from Thunder Bay as they needed to beat Oakville and having played both teams earlier, we had a good feeling that Thunder Bay could win. After a great pre-game talk from Coach Willy, you could see in the players eyes that they were up to the task and were they ever. We played against the high winds in the first half and our boys controlled the play by keeping the ball on the ground while London kept sending long high balls that sailed past the touch lines.
London had a great scoring chance in the first half off a corner kick, but our keeper Luca came up with a great one handed point blank save. This was about the best chance they would have the rest of the game. But the player of the match was our midfielder Daniel Seddon. He played a solid two way game attacking and defending and he was definitely the difference in this game. As Coach Willy said, Daniel was possessed.
Daniel Seddon had a great scoring chance in the first half only to hit the post. Our first goal came of a counter attack with Daniel Hyun taking a throw from our Keeper Luca in our end and breaking all the way to the top of the 18 yard box and Daniel finished it off with a great strike in the top right hand corner and we went up 1 – 0 at the half. With the wind in our favor in the second half we knew we had the game in control but we needed to keep pressing and Coach Willy made sure our players understood this and he kept them focused.
The game got rough as London City was frustrated. We went up 2-0 when our striker Ryan Rowe received a through ball and broke in on the London Keeper and he made no mistake. In the other match, we got the help we need from Thunder bay as they beat Oakville 4 – 2……YES WE PULLED IT OFF!!!! But our job is not finished as we now advance to the Semi-Final Round and our goal is to make it to the Ontario Cup Finals..
WE WANT TO CONGRADULATE THE 13 PLAYERS THAT SHOWED UP AND PLAYED THEIR HEARTS OUT….Luca Palombi (Keeper/Co-Captain), Steven Frantellizzi (Defender), Paolo Carabetta (Defender), Andreas Wynter (Defender), Anthony Anile (Defender), Daniel Seddon (Midfielder), Ryan Rowe (Midfielder), Paul Silvestrone (Striker/Co-Captain), Daniel Hyun (Striker), Francesco D’Urzo (Striker/Co-Captain), Bryan Nogaro (Midfielder), Eric Torelli (Midfielder), Michael Tchoryk (Midfielder/Defender).
We want to thank Gianluca Frantellizzi for making the trip and helping us out. Thanks Gianluca from the Players and Coaching Staff… William Giummarra & Sergio Palombi.
The GS U17 Boys will take on cross town rivals Vaughan in the semi-final of the Ontario Cup.
This week the BU18 showed why they have the potential to be league champions by defeating the other two top teams in the league back to back. On Tuesday the Sun Devils defeated Richmond Hill by a convincing score of 4-0. The players had changed the system of 4-3-3 to a more compact 4-3-3 in order to surprise the opponent who were looking to outnumber us in midfield by playing 4-4-2. With little or no room in midfield to attack the RH Raiders were reduce to trying to play long balls in behind our back four which allowed us to dominate possession in order to counter-attack with speed and catch the boys in green off balance.
In the second game of the week, Darlington came to DD1 having beaten the Sun Devils earlier in the season by one goal and having defeated Woodbridge convincingly 5-1 leaving them tied with the Sun Devils for top spot. The Raiders were also surprised to see the Sun Devils adopt the new 4-3-3 system and changing the wingers onto opposite sides in order to attack towards goal rather than the usual down the outside. The left footed winger went to the right and vice versa. The boys scored two outstanding goals in the first half and coasted to the end by keeping possession and not allowing the visitors the chance to attack.

The Boys U18 lost another game in league play but again showed they can compete until the second half. The boys continue to play good soccer by keeping the ball on the ground and moving it around trying to go forward. The players were very successful doing so but were not able to capitalize in the attacking 1/3 taking to long to take the shot when the opportunity arose and allowing the defender beaten to recover. The players continue to improve by gaining experience playing against older players and show they are willing to keep to the goals of playing attractive soccer rather than resort to kick and run in order to win.
